Onmyoji Zero (2024) – Japanese Movie Review

Erik, the Asian Movie Enthusiast presents:

A review of “Onmyoji Zero” (aka “The Yin Yang Master Zero”), a Japanese fantasy movie from 2024 that stars Kento Yamazaki and Shota Sometani.

Set in the Heian period, Seimei Abe (played by Kento Yamazaki) is a young student at Onmyo-ryo. The school raises students to become an Onmyoji who protect the city from curses and evil spirits. Seimei Abe is well known as a genius in the field of magic. Unlike his fellow students, who all aspire to become an Onmyoji, he doesn’t have any interest in becoming one. One day, he is asked by Noble Hiromasa Minamoto (played by Shota Sometani) to solve a strange phenomenon that hits royal family member Yoshiko. These men work together to unravel the strange phenomenon.

This is a good fantasy flick, but perhaps not as good as the “Onmyoji” films from the 2000s.
