Oaghaji Reviews: Karate Girl KG カラテガール (2011)
Yo, what’s up y’all? Welcome back. This is your boy Oachi back in the building. Back with another video. And we back with another review. Yeah, that’s right. I’m back with another review for y’all. There are times of charm, as they would say. You know what I’m saying? And today I’m reviewing the 2011 Japanese martial arts film Karate Girl. you know, starring Ren Tada, the star of the Japanese martial arts film Hotkick Girl. And it has the same director of the film, which is dope. You know what I’m saying? Um, and it’s also, you know, has the same, you know, choreography by uh Mishi Fuhiko. You know what I’m saying? Um, yeah. Let’s see. I’m reading the back of the CVD. You know, I know he has the same director, you know what I’m saying? And uh Yeah. Yeah. Yo, Yoshi Katu Kimura. Yeah, I was right. Yeah, it also has the same fight choreographer, Fiohiko Nishi. Yeah, sorry. I have to pause to make sure you know I I get things right. I know it’s made by the same director. You know what I’m saying? And it has the same sass by the way. But just want to, you know, double check. You know what I’m saying? You know, you know. Anyway, um let’s talk about this movie right here. I’m going to read the plot synopsis in the back of this DVD. A mysterious high school girl, Aayaka, played by Ren Tada, has a dark secret. She is a martial arts master and must keep her family’s martial arts legacy secret to protect her family treasure, the black belt. When she accidentally reveals her awesome fighting skills in public, the Roffus Karate game that murdered her family and abducted her sister finds out. Now a faithful battle is inevitable as the gang and her strange sister prepares to fight Aayaka for possession of the highly covered black belt. Pretty pretty synopsis, huh? Um, let’s talk about the story, characters, and acting. Yeah, the I think the story is pretty enjoyable. You know what I’m saying? Um, yeah, it’s not deep or philosophical or anything like that. It it has a a straightforward story, martial arts story, which I like. You know what I’m saying? But it’s but it’s an intriguing one nonetheless. You know, it keeps you intrigued. You know what I’m saying? You know, if you’re going to have a straightforward martial arts story, you got to make sure it’s intriguing. You know what I’m saying? And and that’s and that’s what this film did. You know, for me, you know what I’m saying? I I definitely enjoy it. So, so basically, um, I don’t want to spoil I don’t want to talk about give too much away. I don’t want to talk about too much because, you know, um, I I want y’all to watch this for yourself. You know what I’m saying? And, uh, so for the story, it it definitely gets, you know, a 3.5 out of five. You know what I’m saying? Uh, yeah, I definitely give it a 3.5. All right. Now, for the characters. Um, the character Aayaka played by Rance Takada, she’s pretty cool. You know what I’m saying? I always like a fe a female karate kind of films, you know, especially, you know, since I’m a I’m a fan of uh Esico Shomi aka Sushiomi of Sister Street Fighter fan, you know what I’m saying? I definitely like her. So, yeah. So, yeah. So, I was definitely intrigued, you know what I’m saying, about this film, especially I watched the fight book, which I will get into later on review. Um, yeah, the character of Aayaka, you know, I definitely like the fact that, you know, she wants try to live uh trying to keep her martial arts skills a secret to, you know, to live this normal life in Japan. You know what I’m saying? But, you know what? Uh but unfortunately she h she uh accidentally revealed her secret and now she has to you know fight this game. You know what I’m saying? So you know especially her her sister. So you know which is pretty interesting in my opinion. Um Raina Tada did a pretty good job playing as Aayaka. You know what I’m saying? I have to give credit. I also like the the girl that plays her sister too. I definitely like her too. you know, even though she’s, you know, it’s robotic with, you know, the sister, but but you know what? That’s the whole point. You know what I’m saying? Because she’s been she was uh she she was taken from taken from her family to join this uh this ruthless, you know, kate gang. You know what I’m saying? So So that’s the the point of her character, you know? Again, I don’t want to give too much away because, you know, um, again, spoilers. You know what I’m saying? Um, I do recommend y’all to watch this in Japanese with English subtitles. All right? You know, uh, avoid the English dub at all cost. You know what I’m saying? And I’m gonna keep on saying it, too. So, so yeah. Yeah. So, yeah. say I’m gonna keep on saying but anyway um yeah the the characters are pretty cool and interesting and I definitely enjoy you know the acting this film in my opinion yeah the acting isn’t Oscar worthy or Emmy worthy or anything like that but it’s definitely pretty good good you know for what it’s been given you know for what it tries to deliver in my opinion you know what I’m saying so the characters definitely get a four out of five and the acting uh gets a 3.5 out of five. Now, let’s talk about the action in this film as well as the cinematography and uh and maybe the lighting. You know what I mean? Um the fire choreography is pretty dope. It’s definitely pretty solid in my opinion. It has a classical uh Japanese kay choreography that you will see in the film obi aka black belt but more you know uh but more but even more intense but more but there’s a little bit more to it I would say you know what I’m saying that’s the perfect description I would describe it and I definitely like how uh the fights uh the fights were shot and edited together which I definitely like You know what I’m saying? That that classical Japanese action style, you know what I mean? You know, I definitely enjoy the the the other Japanese action style that we see from the members of the uh Karata action club like Yuji Shimura and Kenji Tanagaki. But I definitely enjoy this just as much. You know what I’m saying? That straightforward, you know, uh karate choreography. You know what I’m saying? Which I definitely like. Um I definitely like how the film is shot too and especially when it comes to fights, you know what I’m saying? How you see the locations in see some stuff in Japan, you know, um, and all this other stuff. It’s it’s definitely shot pretty well in my opinion. And the lighting is pretty pretty good, you know, especially with, you know, in the latter fights in the film. You know what I’m saying? Which I think think is pretty good. It it does, you know, it did its job pretty well in terms of the light in my opinion. So, overall, the the action definitely gets a 4.5 out of five. Cinematography, four out of five, and lighting, uh, four out of five, I would say. Um, let’s talk about the music. The music, the music’s pretty good. You know what I’m saying? Uh, it’s not perfect, but it’s good. You know what I’m saying? Um, I like, you know, that like it has the mixture of orchestra with a pinch of techno here and there, you know what I mean? Um, I wish I can say more, but it it’s been a minute since I’ve watched this film, so I have to rewatch it, you know what I mean? So, so I would So, um, yeah, I definitely enjoy the music in this film, even though it’s not perfect, you know what I mean? So yeah, the music definitely gets I would say a four out of five. You know what I mean? So yeah. So overall, Karate Girl or Karate Girl, it it’s a pretty fun, pretty enjoyable, pretty entertaining Japanese martial arts film, especially with Ria Tada. And I I definitely recommend it. And I’m definitely gonna get uh High Kick Girl, which is her debut, and watch that film. And once I’ll uh finish watching that, I’mma review it. So stay tuned for that. But for now, Karate Girl gets a four out of five. Hope y’all enjoy this review. You know, I And since I as much as I uh enjoyed reviewing it, excuse me, I got a huge brain fart on that one. So I apologize. But yeah, hope you’ll enjoy.
