GRヤリス 25年式(GR Yaris MY25)/トヨタ TOYOTA【サーキット試乗】実は受注始まってるって知ってました?超大型改良の24式からさらに進化!もうただただ楽しいだけのサーキット試乗

Wow, it’s a completely different car. It’s like I can attack without fear, and it feels super comfortable driving at high speeds. Well, the level of the car’s suspension is quite high these days. [Music] Hello everyone. I’m Yuki Imai, an automotive journalist. Today, I’m here at Sodegaura Forest Raceway. And, this is the car I’m going to be testing today: the GR Yaris. It’s been five years since the 2020 model, and major improvements were made in 2024, leading up to the 2025 model . The 2025 model has also been announced. So, today, I ‘ll be testing both the 2020 and 2025 models. So, I’d like to introduce these to you. I’ve driven both the manual and automatic transmissions, so please watch until the end. Please support me by subscribing to my channel and giving me a thumbs up. [Music] So, once again, I’d like to test drive this 2020 GR Yaris. So, since it’s the 20, it’s a model that was just released, and, um, this Yaris has had so many changes, so-called engine improvements, that they decided to change the name because it was getting confusing . So, starting this year, the names will be, um, you know, Type 20, Type 24, Type 25, and so on, and they’ll be called by the year. So, from 2025 onwards, new improvements will be made, and, um, as expected, it will be Type 2. Wow, it’s so much fun to drive now that I wonder what improvements are going to be made. Seriously. What is this? It’s really fun. And, it’s easy to step on, and as expected, it’s quite GR. I’ve had the opportunity to drive in quite a few tough situations, but today it was dry and really hot, and I was able to drive it with extremely high grip, so it felt like the car was really holding on, and it was really fun . I just did my first run, but I was having so much fun I couldn’t push myself too hard, couldn’t talk much, and just drove normally. But it drives so well on roads that it makes me want to do that. I’m just thinking again that it’s a great car, but what are they going to change about it now? Ugh. Oh, this acceleration, it’s got so much more going for it. It feels amazing. But the revs hit pretty quickly and then it stalls. And it hits the rev limit, and it only keeps the revs up for 0.4 seconds, which is what this generation is used to . And with the 2025 model, they apparently made some changes to keep the revs up for about 3 seconds, so I’m thinking about keeping an eye on that. But it’s just high-grip and really fun. It just feels good. Wow. And it ‘s a little hard to shift into second gear. So, this part is driving smoothly and I can shift into second gear, but is it okay for a man to do this? I don’t know if I don’t have enough muscles in this side, but I just can’t shift very well. Second gear is stiff, and I think I might have said this before . When I was driving the GR Yaris, second gear was always quite difficult for me. So, I kept wishing I could do something about it, and eventually I did. It was so much fun, I just couldn’t stop. Wow, this acceleration is amazing. I was so focused, I almost stopped talking . Anyway, anyway, it’s still fun to drive, and I can definitely feel the GR Yaris lineage , and I think it’s definitely built that way. It’s a little hectic, but maybe it’s not completely out of the ordinary. Maybe it’s not. No, it’s really fun, though. So, here’s the 25 model. Wow, so fast. Oh, so fast, so fast, so fast. Wow, so stable. All I can say is this. What is this? Huh? It feels like it’s just shifting a gear and it’s still accelerating. You’re kidding me, it was in fourth gear just a moment ago. And then it did this. Hold on a minute. No, this is bad, this is bad, this is bad. Wait, wait, wait. Wait, wait. There was a bit of a problem with the filming equipment, so wow, it’s so smooth. What is this? Wow, it’s a dramatically different car. The shifting and the engine are completely different. And it’s so sticky. What is this? It’s not at all. It’s not at all. Wow. It spins and spins and spins. [Music] No, no, no, no, no, no. The torque is so incredible it made a bang. So, there was a bit of a problem with the filming so we had to cut it for a moment, but here it is, the 25 model. Amazing. It’s so stable that you hit the rev limit in an instant. So , I might find myself struggling a bit to match the speed I was going at before . Wow, this is interesting. It’s a completely different car. It’s definitely a big brother. This is amazing. And, wow, it’s so tenacious and tenacious. So tenacious. The front doesn’t give way at all. Wow, it goes in, goes in, goes in. This is amazing. Ah. And, because it’s so smooth , it actually feels like you could go one gear lower. Wow. That’s a whole other question. I’m concentrating on driving right now, so I can’t really talk. But, the handling has become so calm. Seriously, what can I say? Completely. I can praise it, or rather, as always, heel-and-double is so easy , so even on circuits where you have to change gears here and there, it ‘s not painful, how should I put it, but in fact, it’s fun. The car’s speed has increased dramatically. Easily. Wow, it’s so different. First of all, it ‘s incredibly supple. Wow. And it turns. It’s amazing now; if you push the gas so hard that you’re almost leaning into a corner, it just surges forward. It’s amazing . Seriously. Third, second, third gear feels so good, this car is just a little more, no, amazing. It really lets you drive it, it really is. Wow. [Music] So, um, it’s now 25 , but before it became 25, this Yaris actually underwent major changes in 2024, as you know, and as we’ve covered on our channel, 2024 has seen . So, um, to begin with, with regards to this manual transmission model , it feels like the base is in place, but, um, first of all, the body has been strengthened, and also, the driving modes have changed significantly . So, here too, um, Kazuo Oshima and the other drivers made detailed settings , and, um, this DAT, no, not a DAT, um, this MT , the driving modes, um, have changed again in this era. So, the driving mode, and I’m currently on Sport. Um, when you switch to Sport, um , the Kudo 5 before and after changes, um, and this change in driving mode is amazing, it really changes the feel completely, so I’d like to try changing it a bit. You can change it while driving. And, um, do you push to get to Track mode? Oh, I just switched to Track mode. Wow, what a close dash. Ah, I see. Wow. Pushing is fun. Um, it’s like the car just keeps turning, turning, turning, turning, turning. It turns, turns, turns. Oh, I’m so excited. I’m so excited, right? I’m so excited, right? Sorry. Sorry, I’m having too much fun . This is what it’s like. It’s like Dori Dori Dori . No, this, ah, and you can attack with peace of mind . So, after experiencing this, I really think that the Type 20 is a bit mischievous, and very rough around the edges. And yet, there’s so much advertising. It’s so exciting, and it makes sporty driving even more fun. Of course there’s the shift timing and stuff , but it feels like the overall control has been emphasized. It’s like the direction is aligned, or the tuning is perfect. It ‘s like all the sounds have been harmonized beautifully. So it’s easier to grasp the car’s overall behavior, and you can see that I’m driving with a lot more ease than before , and that the car’s speed has increased dramatically. It really does feel like this. Look, I’m driving a little better. It’s so much fun. I’m opening the throttle really wide right now. Yes, oh, it’s not scary at all. Oh, this is going to make you a better driver. When I’m driving this, I seriously want to step on the gas . Wow, it’s crazy. It’s really amazing. Wow. What’s more, I really love turning with excessive weight, so if you’re someone who likes to turn with excessive weight and drive a car with a fairly high ground clearance, this is definitely for you. So, I think it’s great for people who don’t want to wreak havoc with the steering wheel, but want to control the car a little, how should I put it ? Did you see it? Hey, hey, did you see it? [Music] It ‘s so beautiful. Also, the brakes are amazing. Did you see it? I did it. It turned out like this. It’s so fun, it’s crazy . This kid is truly a sinner. I think I can go further. Ah . It’s crazy. It’s so fun. What is this? This kid is teaching me a new world I didn’t know . The way he turns makes me feel like an Inca . [Music] Now, it’s DAT. What’s this vertical pull? There’s a parking brake, but I won’t use it today. So, I’m going for track mode. There’s also a CK. I tilt it down to make the front negative. I can drive a little. See, this is it. This is it. Everyone, have you seen my…? It’s increasing a lot. Oh, it’s kind of stiff. Oh. Wow. So, so straightforward. What is this? There are two stages to the accelerator pedal, and beyond that, oh, it just shot up on its own. So, here, I’m in third gear . But I dropped back down to third. And now it’s dropped down to second. Wow, that’s amazing. So clever. I’ve always been a fan of DATs, and what’s great about them is that they allow you to concentrate so much on handling, and that’s something that hasn’t been seen in AT sports cars until now . I thought the same thing when I drove the prototype at the 24, but I think a big part of this is that the DAT control itself has been honed and refined in the All Japan Rally . Since Fukami-san was the central figure in developing this DAT, a lot of emphasis was placed on the “pulling” aspect . And, even more so, the 25 model has further enhanced that “pulling” aspect. The 24 model was already good, but the 25 model has been further refined, which is the key point . Wow. And, as for the shift timing, it actually has a learning function. On the first lap, it learns the habits of the person in front of me, not me, so it doesn’t quite link up properly. But from the second week onwards, it learns my accelerator and braking habits and optimizes the shift timing. I’m amazed at how meticulously it manages things, and it’s definitely linear, completely linear. See, there’s no longer that slightly slow, awkward feeling from before. It’s amazing. It’s incredible. Wow, it feels great. This is just so fun . Wow, it’s seriously amazing. When braking suddenly , you can push the accelerator hard enough to make it vibrate. This car doesn’t vibrate that much, but you can still push it hard enough to make it vibrate. It’s incredibly easy to push the accelerator hard to slow the car down and then accelerate for the next acceleration . And yes, there’s a kickback-like feature at the end of the accelerator, which gives it a nice little click . It feels like comfortable high-speed driving. Oh, that’s right. And there’s also the electronic steering control. The electric steering control has been slightly redesigned. It’s also improved, so even though it slipped a little, it’s now incredibly linear. It’s neither too quick nor too sluggish, and that’s what’s been changed. I’d like to try switching to track mode . It’s amazing, it’s strange, but when you switch to track mode, you can really feel the rolling sensation. Even with the manual transmission, I was like, ” Wow!” but I couldn’t put it into words. So, it kind of rolls . It feels like the car’s speed has increased. And I think this is probably connected to the feeling of push from the rear, which gives me a very forward rolling feeling. So it might be a good fit for this circuit. This track mode . Ah, how can it be so smooth and yet so agile? They’ve made a great car. The GR is fun. I asked at the beginning if you had watched the Nürburgring broadcast, and I plan to upload my Nürburgring report in the future, but Morizo-san drove far beyond the original 75 laps planned. I wonder how long he drove? He was driving like crazy. I was there, and I watched Morizo-san driving , and I was like, “Wow, he’s not coming down at all!” I was the pit reporter, so I was supposed to report when Morizo-san got out, but he never came out, so I was like, “It’s okay,” and I waited in the pit for him to come out, but he never did, and the moment he did, he had this huge smile on his face. The moment he got out, he said, “This is a great car.” Morizo-san, that strict guy, is pretty impressive for him to say that about his own company’s car , and he was driving at that speed. He’s a really good driver , Moldo-san. But, you know, maybe it’s true. This car is just so much fun. There was this amazing moment in the relaxed atmosphere, and , well, this is because the upper mounts are three-point, and the engine bay is really solid, and of course, that’s partly because the car is so solid, but we ‘ve also changed the suspension tuning to match that, but… let’s make it real gravel. Yes, I put it on gravel mode. Eh, no, both are fun. They’re slightly different kinds of fun. And the feel is clearly different. Oh, this one, right, right, right, right. This one fits the nose better . It feels like the nose is in a bit more. Is that why it’s leaning forward? You see, it feels like you wrote about it earlier. So, we’ve been exceeding the grip limit of the tires a bit, and it’s been slipping and sliding a bit, but even at times like that the electronic controls are already firmly in place, so it’s incredibly reassuring. So even if you push a little too hard , you can rest assured that once you make a few corrections the car will handle everything else. So, Oshima Kazu, um, I was already talking about that boat earlier, but it’s something like this, with the Type 20 Truck 5050, um, the third generation, we thought this would be good, but um, um, we’ve been looking for more detailed and better parts since then, and, I looked at various settings in increments of 53% vs. 47%, and this one really, really reduced steer, and it was great, so I installed it. In addition to that, the lower half-type suspension has been getting better and better, so I’ve adopted this too. At first, it would shift a little downwards when the driver wasn’t on the line, which made it a little uncomfortable, but that’s been improved a lot. There are still some issues, but the accuracy has improved, so I think it’s effective for getting good times. Yes. Aside from torque distribution, the rear suspension no longer has lock-in at base speed, which might make it feel a little unstable for some, but it does make it easier to turn . Nowadays, drivers at the Nürburgring use electronic control because it’s easier for them. Wow. See? Right now, it ‘s probably like a full-range drift in gravel mode, and it’s turning smoothly . Look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look. This, this, this. It feels like this. Wow, it feels like it’s swinging really hard . This is really fun. Insane. Hold on a second. It ‘s starting to get fun. It feels like I’m driving while slightly countering the curve. I wonder? I think you’ve probably noticed this, but I really love low-mu, and I like to drive with a bit of a slide. I think it was the same at the Porsche Driving Experience Center, but I get this feeling so much. And it feels like I’m really getting the grip. Look, look, I get it, it feels so good. Insane. So much fun. [Music] Thank you. It was so much fun. First of all , thank you for the impressions you saw, and then, well, thank you for providing such a wonderful experience. So, having had the opportunity to drive the DT this time, I really understand how Morisawa Tomo-san feels. The final rally is the best, so I can really understand why he’s thinking, “Wow, I want more!” I think it’s a truly amazing evolution, and it was so much fun to have it featured alongside the 20 this time. Mr. Yamada, who has now taken over from Mr. Saito, I know you have a very important role to play. As the head of this project, how do you plan to evolve the Alaris in the future? Thank you. I think there are two aspects to it. First, in terms of performance, I think there’s still a lot that needs to be done, and Mr. Oshima has expressed a lot of expectations for us to do this and that, so I want to focus on the current evolution in that area. Secondly , I think we need to continue to make this a fun sport, a sport that gives joy to driving, so I’m thinking about how we can respond to upcoming environmental regulations and how we can bring that fan feeling and excitement to backing up cars after 2030. While working on these two things, I think. For example, I think there are already some environmentally friendly aspects, such as the material of the brake pads, but there are also other things like mufflers and exhaust gases, right? Yes. That’s right. Yes. Speaking of brakes, well, the euro element is one thing that comes up, yes. Yes. And, the environment varies from region to region, and currently, when you try to specify that environment, it’s true that most things affect performance, right? That’s true with the current technology for the materials. But I’ve been told that that’s boring, so I think the job is to be confident in the technology and be able to stand firm. Yes. For example, Mr. Shima, do you have any particular thoughts about environmentally friendly, eh, supply parts? Please clarify. Well, yes, if we don’t do anything about the engine power, it will gradually lose power transmission. Well, the same goes for tire grip, yeah, yeah, yeah. I ‘m sure they’re already preparing various things in that area . No, even with my level of technique, the car is still too stable, and in the end, I finally drove the aero power mouse package, and it was just too sticky. Even on this circuit, the level of pressure is completely different, but if you push it hard, I think customers will probably want more power, more traction, and more system, so to meet those demands, the engine needs to be smaller, more powerful, and with lower emissions. Yeah . Well, the level of the car’s suspension is pretty high these days. To be honest, I feel like the power is a little lacking compared to the car’s performance . No, the photos are too good. It really has improved so much. When I first saw the 2011 model, I thought, ” Oh no!” It’s just so good. It’s so much fun, and since it’s my first time, I’m not used to it yet, so I can have fun with it and it’s great, but then when I ride a regular 25, I’m like, wow, this isn’t it at all . I feel like I’ve grown up a little. And then when it comes to the aero performance, it becomes more settled, and this time it seems like they’re trying to bring out more and more of this, and this is where it all comes together. Yeah. Well, with the Mille system, there were some parts that weren’t quite cohesive, and you could sense a bit of a wild feel from that, but that’s fine. Well, when I told them to fix the various issues, they were very good. The car’s rank went up a lot, and it got better, but still… I feel like it’s becoming a little more refined , and it’s a little closer to the GR Corolla. Maybe because we developed it together, we’re aiming for the same thing, so I think we’ve come together. I’d like to work a little harder from here to make it a more comfortable, more stylish car, but where exactly is it right now? Ideally, since the suspension has improved, I’d like to get more out of it in terms of power, tread grip, and so on, but it’s difficult in many ways, so I guess I need to do a little more with the suspension setup. Right now, it’s designed to appeal to everyone, but… [Music] Well, I’m thinking about trying to create a bit more of a TT feel. [ Music ] It’s a little difficult, but if you can get the hang of it, it’s fast. Based on my image of the car, I’m thinking it might be a good idea to shift in that direction. I’d like to try a few things in the future. The introduction of the LBX Mozo gave it a luxurious feel and a sense of calm. And then there’s the GR Corolla, the 5-door. So, I feel like there’s definitely a lot more that the Yaris can do. Right now, we’re releasing a variety of cars, so we’d like to see how customers react and see which direction we should go. Incidentally, I think the results at the Nürburgring were truly amazing. So, if there were any issues that came up at the Nürburgring that you can talk about now, I’d like to hear about them. It’s been a while since we last competed, and it was incredibly hot this year, without that tough weather. I think there were some negative aspects that didn’t come up during the 24 Hours of Fuji. Yeah. That’s right. Well, when I was actually driving, it was really hot inside the car, but I think it would be better to change the way the air flows throughout the car, and so, while I was in the car, I tried changing the front a little to change the air flow, and turning on the door to let the air out, Well, I think if we could understand that, I think it would be even better if we could calculate the wind flow and design it in from the very first design stage. I’d never done a 24-hour race before, so I honestly felt that when we got to the DAT, you needed to brake with your right foot. I’ve now gone completely two-pedal, and since I can concentrate without taking my hands off the wheel, wouldn’t it be even better if I could operate both with my feet straight out in front of me? The Hart method. Well, I guess there are some people who can ride with their left foot and some who can’t, so I guess there are a lot of different options. Yeah. [Music] But I thought that was especially true for Nir. I wonder if it’s okay to design things with that in mind. Yeah, that’s true. Also, as cars get more and more powerful, and speeds increase, the amount of clothing that’s hanging over your body increases. [Music] Yeah. I think we need a little more, well, seats, seats, that’s right. Position, etc. Yes. Well, it’s the same with the position of the shift lever, but I think it would be nice if it could be made a little more comfortable to drive. That’s right. Personally, it’s really hard to shift into second gear with that car. Yeah. And, um, I don’t have much arm strength, so when I shift from third to second, it’s really hard to shift into second gear. I wish it was easier to shift into that position. I think women tend to sit quite far forward, especially. That’s right. And when you move forward, you have to open up quite a bit. That’s right. And if the seats get tighter, it’ll probably get even harder, and that position just doesn’t feel right. I really miss shifts. And, you know, I’m always told to memorize it right before the shift, but I end up hesitating. [Music] That’s the kind of thing that’s really happening now, with more and more women taking part in the discussions, and it’s really increasing in rally racing and stuff. Not just for female drivers, but for those in the older age range, but also for those with declining muscle strength, I’d like to see something done to make the second gear easier to drive . Right now , we’re working on various issues with the S-type body. The powertrain and transmission engineers have been asking us a lot of questions, analyzing them, and I think they’ve come up with a lot of ideas. Well, the platform is already complete, so it’s difficult, but we’ll see a lot of progress in the future. [Music] Yes, when they make a new car, they’ll be able to do it again. Yes. I think it will be a high-level car again. That’s right. The effect is amazing, you can do it yourself. White Za50: So, today, I visited the GR Yaris test track here at Ura Forest A. What did you think ? I was really impressed by the honest and straightforward improvements that were made, bringing together knowledge from various motorsports fields . We also featured the aero performance package. So, we took a look at the exterior at Super GT Suzuka, and I’d like to share that with you in the next video. This is also a big draw. I hope everyone will pay attention to it. Thank you for watching until the end today . Please support me by subscribing to my channel and giving it a high rating. This was Yuki Ima, a car journalist. Bye-bye. [Music]
