中国で服を作る夫婦の日常【商談・縫製工場・デザインした服紹介】
Um, today I’m heading to a business meeting with a new company, and I’m on my way with Mr. Song. Hair styling is pointless Arrived Good luck Ignored By the way, at this company right now, I’m visiting what looks like a sample room, and around here you can see FILA and such, Doraemon… This is a kids’ clothing rack right now, and also Sanrio, seems like they handle Sanrio too. Looks like they’re involved with that. Pretty Cure Boob T-shirt This company handles quite a lot of, um, fabric products, from kids’ clothes to adult clothing, and also things like what’s shown here: yoga and um, sportswear type products. Beyond clothes, they also do bedding and general items, like bathrobes, and I think there were pajamas earlier too. Like jinbei-style things. It’s a company that manufactures various clothing items for domestic and international markets. This one is totally for sale in Japan. Meeting with the president and the person in charge This meeting about clothing design came about through a connection with the person in charge. This is my second time meeting the president—he’s always approachable and soft-spoken. I don’t understand what they’re saying,
so I’ll just smile for now. After the meeting,
dinner with the president and his wife It started raining Japanese-style izakaya Mysterious dango Milk flavor? Something arrived Huge-ass meat Actual eating Freaking delicious Heading to the factory The factory we’re visiting today specializes in men’s wear. It’s a factory Mr. Song is in a meeting… We’ll have samples made at this factory, and since I’m free while Mr. Song is meeting, I’ll take you all on a factory tour! First up: The Cutting Room Here, fabrics come in bolt form, but first, to make them easier to handle, they’re cut to a certain size, and also, clothing patterns are cut directly in this area. That’s what happens here. They cut it like this. Cutting in progress Laser cutter An amazing device that reads pattern data and cuts with a laser Next up: Sewing Room This is the sewing room. It’s huge~ Like uniforms, everyone’s wearing the same pink polo shirts. And this factory uses JUKI for sewing machines. JUKI is a Japanese sewing machine brand. And here, since it’s almost exclusively a men’s wear factory, the items they make, as you can see here, are jackets, suits, and also men’s casual wear like bombers and coats. They make those here too, but jackets are definitely their main focus. After cutting and sewing, the next room is mostly for finishing touches— the final stage. This is the room for finishing work. Jackets are really Mr. Song rejoins tough to make, everyone. They’re quite complex. Finishing Room ○ This is for shoulders ○ This is for the front panel This is for the back ○ This mannequin itself has high-pressure steam coming from inside to press the fabric. This is for sleeves. Pressing is crucial for jackets— this machine presses collar areas. Psssh Detailed areas are done by hand. The spot she’s touching is crazy hot Hand-finishing corner Like this, clothes are hung up, and detailed areas like sleeves, shoulders, and hems are pressed while hanging on racks. The people in this room are truly finishing professionals. After cutting and sewing earlier, the finished clothes are checked here before shipping: shaped neatly, pressed, and prepared for delivery. So this is really important work. They check for odd wrinkles while pressing, and also look for sewing mistakes— it’s a dual-purpose inspection area. Past the pressing area… Shipping Room It’s practically all jackets here— all these are ready for delivery. Crazy volume! It’s seriously hot here! Current temperature: 41°C They have fans running, but honestly, for a factory of this scale, air conditioning wouldn’t make a difference— it just wouldn’t work. This factory makes items for domestic Chinese brands too, but a large portion comes from overseas orders. These suits, for example, are mostly for international clients. Germany, Italy— lots of orders from European brands. By the way, this factory also manufactures for a certain Japanese brand that everyone definitely knows. This is one of the most skilled factories I know. I often see them making men’s outerwear. Japanese guy taking candy from a kid he doesn’t know Thought it was sweet—turns out it’s not. Another day Work scene Mr. Song, what are you doing? Mr. Song:
Working on a proposal Mr. Song:
for that company we visited. Summarizing what we discussed. Something like that. Mr. Song:
Yeah. Going well? Mr. Song:
Yeah, smoothly. Actually, this is separate from the proposal— it’s for the design stuff. Well, Mr. Song mainly handles the design ideas and manages the brand, but he’s not great at drawing. So I take Mr. Song’s design concepts and compositions (not his strong suit), and since I’m better at sketching, I visualize them into tangible designs. Right? Mr. Song:
Thanks. That’s something I can help with, but— Mr. Song:
Paper? Mr. Song:
In this Reiwa era? Mr. Song:
You’re Japanese! Well, when brainstorming, I still prefer paper. Mr. Song:
You have an iPad! Mr. Song:
It’s pretty much… Mr. Song:
Technically, Anyway, I still start with paper drafts. I do have an iPad, but for technical stuff like flat sketches or spec sheets— documents needed for production— I handle those on paper too. I just like physical sketching. Mr. Song finished the proposal and is now drafting patterns. Says that to me but uses paper himself! Mr. Song:
But this way Mr. Song:
it’s clearer! Mr. Song:
Actual size, so I can see if buttons are too small, etc. Mr. Song:
It’s practical. Mr. Song:
You can do digital. Conclusion: Analog couple Can’t come up with designs No good ideas Brain empty Since I can’t think of any designs, I considered doing something else, but then I remembered viewers commenting: “We’d love to see clothes designed by Shippy!” So I thought— I have tons of samples at home, so why not show you some pieces we’ve made? Introducing past designs Which one first… Mr. Song:
You’re wearing one! Oh, this! I’m wearing a shirt we designed. Made from stiff, thick linen— a half-sleeve camp collar shirt. It has a zipper (not buttons) front, using YKK—our proud choice! Theme was “Letters.” See these 8 stitches here? Inspired by lined stationery paper. The key detail is on the back: a flower cutout with intentional fraying (but secured with stitching). Another detail: the pocket lining is white— visible when hands are in pockets. Also shortened for my height. Mr. Song:
Being short is tough, huh? Next: Long vest! Same “Letters” theme. Mr. Song’s favorite. Features stationery-inspired stitching on the front and hem. The pockets are envelope-shaped! It’s also 2-way: Snap buttons here detach to make a short vest! Now this green shirt Mr. Song loves. Secret: It’s double-layered! Outer: lace with green check print. Inner: blue striped fabric. Semi-sheer— can be worn reversed! Mr. Song models reverse side. Popular piece. Mr. Song suggests a jacket: Design details skipped per request Fun fact: Our clothes were worn by celebs like comedian Chihara Junior and (former) Johnny’s talents e.g., Ryusei Onishi. Apologies for vague idol references Anyway, I’ve been thinking about making T-shirts. Most YouTubers release merch like tees or hoodies, right? We’ve barely made any in 10 years! Mr. Song: judgmental stare So… maybe an original tee? If you have ideas for what Mr. Song and I should design, comment or DM us! If anyone happens to be looking forward to this, we’d be motivated! That’s all for the designs! Thanks for watching!
