“Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube” | Japanese voice actors

A look at the voice cast of hell teacher Jigoku Sensei Nube. Today I’d like to introduce the voice cast of Heloku Sensei Nube, focusing on some of their most iconic roles. The original manga created by Shom Makura and Teeshi Okano was serialized in Shonen Jump until 1999. The TV anime first aired in Japan back in April 1996. So this remake comes nearly 30 years later. The character designs haven’t changed too drastically. In fact, I think the art style has been nicely updated while still preserving the original look. The story follows Muk Nueno, a school teacher who also happens to be a psychic. He deals with supernatural occurrences and battles Yo-kai around the school and town. Even now, rereading the original manga, especially the early chapters, you’re struck by how genuinely terrifying and grotesque the illustrations are. It’s fullon horror. Judging from episodes one and two of the remake, the show kicks off with the same standalone story as the original. However, this time the featured Yo-kai is Sukumon Mushi, which brings it even closer to the manga. That said, there are plenty of anime original elements, like how Hiroshi isn’t a transfer student, and Tamamo is already lurking behind the scenes from episode 1. Overall, the action feels much more dynamic, and it seems the remake is leaning more into Yo-kai battles than straight up horror. Then again, that could just be a way to hook viewers early on. There were also some scenes in the original that wouldn’t fly on TV today, especially the more risque ones. So, it’ll be interesting to see how faithful this version chooses to be. Anyway, let’s get to the main topic, the voice cast. Except for Nueno and his rival Tamamo, all the main roles have been recast. Considering it’s been 30 years, many of the original cast members have retired or passed away. In that context, it’s actually incredible that Riyotaro Okiu and Toshiki Moriawa are still able to repraise their roles. First up is the protagonist, Msuk Nueno, or Nube, who has a demon sealed in his left hand. He’s once again voiced by Riotaro Okiou. His major past roles include Kunimitsu Tesica in The Prince of Tennis and Byakuya Kuchiki in Bleach. Both are long-running series. Shun, the Prince of Tennis, just announced that the manga will end in about a year, sparking lots of buzz among fans. As for Bleach, who knows when we’ll finally get part four of the final arc anime. Back when the original New aired, Okiayou was also voicing Hashi Mitsui in Slam Dunk and Tushanata, the antagonist in Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. Slam Dunk was recast for its remake, but thankfully Okiou stayed on as New Babe. He’s also the one who delivered the iconic Anzai Sensei I want to play basketball line. More recently, he voiced the eccentric CEO Miyuki Hebanuma in Kowoon Generic Romance and Admiral Kizaru in One Piece, a role he inherited from the late Uno Shiza. With the exception of Gundam Wing, all these titles are shownen Jump related, so he’s definitely a staple in Jump anime. Next is Noob’s rival, the Yo-kai Fox Spirit Ki Tamo, voiced by Toshiuki Moriawa, also reprising his role from the original. Side note, did Tamamo’s hair color change? Moriawa is known for voicing Hiroshi Nohara, the dad in Crayon Shinchan. And although it’s not an anime, he’s also famous as Sepharoth in Final Fantasy 7. In 2025, he voiced the father of the protagonist in the winter anime Anyway, I’m Falling in Love with You and the hero, Captain Celebrity, in the My Hero Academia spin-off Vigilantes. Like Tamamo, many of Moriawa’s characters are those good-looking types with questionable morals. This fall, a new Crayon Shinchan spin-off called Hiroshi Nohara’s Lunch Style will air with Moriawa in the lead. It’s about Hiroshi eating lunch alone at various restaurants. Just the kind of slowpaced food ccentric story I personally enjoy. Now, let’s talk about Nub’s students. The regular characters who show up in nearly every episode are five kids featured together in the opening PB on YouTube. First is Hiroshi Tatano, the focus of episodes 1 and two, voiced by Ryoko Shiishi. She’s known for playing Hayateate Aasaki in Hayate the Combat Butler, and Awi Noami in Psychic Squad, a common case of a female voice actor playing a young boy. While these titles are from Shonen Sunday, she’s also in One Piece as one of Dr. for Vega Punk’s clones, Edison. So, she’s no stranger to jump anime either. The original Hiroshi was voiced by Toshiko Fuja, who played Taichi Yagami in Digimon Adventure and die in the original Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Die. Since Fuja has passed away, the recast was inevitable. Next is Kyoko Inaba, voiced by Ayas Suzaki, known for Tamako Kitashiwa in Tamako Market and KD Kayeno in Assassination Classroom. That series is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and is currently being rerun on Japanese TV. Hard to believe it’s been that long. The original Kiyoko was Roomie Kasahara who also played Remy Miai in Toart and Misau Amano in Magical Girl Pretty Sammy. Toart just had a remake released this June which I’m currently playing. It even includes a mode where you can hear Kasahara’s original voice. Next is Miki Hosokawa voiced by Tommoyo Kurasawa. She played the lead kumiko Umei in sound euphonium and the protagonist Amate Yuzertiha in this past spring’s mobile suit Gundam GX. For better or worse, GX was probably the most talked about anime of the season. I still don’t know what to make of that final episode. Miki was originally voiced by Mina Tomaga, who’s still active, famous as Katsuo in Sazaan and Dokinchan in Anon. She could have reprised the role, but with the rest of the cast changing, they probably opted for a full refresh. Next, Katsuya Kimura is voiced by Riyota Iwasaki, who played the lead, made the lead, Madaka Kuroya, and Madaka Koya is impervious to My Charms. That anime went viral thanks to its quirky opening where girls flap their hands weirdly. It’s actually a solid romcom. He also appeared in last year’s A terrified teacher at Ghoul School as the teacher of the neighboring class, making this his second consecutive year in a Yo-kai school anime. The original Katsuya was voiced by Kazunari Tanaka, known for Coach Kishin Ukai in Haiku and Shinichiro Tamaki in Code Jess. Since Tanaka passed away during Haiku’s airing, longtime fans are probably aware of the casting change. Lastly, Makoto Kurita is voiced by Shiho Cookido, who played the fairy aroma in Go Princess Pretty Cure and the shape-shifting Tanuki Poco in Poco’s Udon World. That show is set in Kagawa Prefecture, and it’ll make you crave Udon every time you watch. Makoto’s original voice was Meumi Oawa, who also played Uub in Dragon Ball Z and Yotaro in World Trigger. She could probably still pull off the same voice. Speaking of World Trigger, it’s been a while since season 3. Wonder if we’ll ever get a fourth. Now on to Ritziko Takahashi, the teacher in the neighboring class and Noob’s first crush, voiced by Aya Endo. She’s known for Cheryl Gnome in Macros Frontier and Emily Amande in Gundam Age. More recently, she’s played Shokoieri in Jiujutsu Kaisen. Her cool, laid-back tone feels quite different from Ritskco, though. Originally, Ritzo was voiced by Michiko Naa, who also played Jun Tao in Shaman King and Melissa Mao in Full Metal Panic. I never noticed it back then, but Nia actually voiced quite a few cute characters as well. And finally, we have Yukime, the snowwoman who’s essentially the heroine of the series. She’s voiced by a Kakuma, known for Cure Prism in Soaring Sky Precure and Aerys in Mishoku Tensei. With her soft, slightly youthful tone, she’s one of the go-to voice actors for cute characters. This spring, she also voiced Korea Furitachi in Food for the Soul, which was one of my personal favorites from the season. The original Yukime was Yuri Shirai, who played Monokona in Magic Knight Rayear. Coincidentally, or perhaps intentionally, she also voiced the snowwoman Yukina in Yuyu Haku show. Bit of a tangent, but Magic Knight Rayear, which like New Bay first aired over 30 years ago, also got a remake announced last year. We’ve only seen one key visual so far and no further details, but I have a feeling it’ll be a full recast as well. Now, let’s briefly go over the rest of the cast members who were announced of episode 1’s broadcast. These characters don’t appear as regularly as the main five students, but since Nube follows a mostly episodic format, I expect each of them will get their own spotlight as guest characters in upcoming episodes. First, we have the serious glasseswearing classmate Akira Yamaguchi. The role has been recast from Michio Yanagisawa to Natsumi Fujiwara. Yanagi Sawa is known for voicing Curry Panman in Anenman, while Fujiwara plays Damian Desmond in Spy Family. She also voiced the dog Chappie in Takope’s original Sin, which I covered in my previous video. Next is the rich boy Shuichi Shiato. He was originally voiced by Junichi Canamaru, who you might recognize as the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog in the games. Apparently, a Mario Kart style racing game featuring Sonic is coming out this September. His replacement is Ayahi Takagaki who voiced Runosuk Fujinami in the remake of Urus Yatsura. Although Shuichi is a boy, the role is now played by a female voice actor. Next is Noro Nakajima, the pink-haired girl who’s often seen with Kiyoko and Miki. The original voice was Machiko Toyoshima, best known as Sako Sakura in Chibi Marochan. Looking back, the guest cast from the original Nube was incredibly star-studded. Noro is now voiced by now Toyama who plays Renshima in Laid-Back Camp. This season, she’s also in the fourth season of Rent a Girlfriend and the sequel to Rascal Does Not Dream. Next, we have Shizuka Kikuchi, whose design kind of resembles a haunted doll. The original voice actress, Emmy Uagawa, hasn’t been active in anime recently, but back then she was a regular on Noob, often voicing background characters and ghosts. The new voice is Yui Makino, known for Fumina Hosino in Gundam Build Fighters Try. Next is Masaru Kaneda, the typical loud bossy kid leader character. What they used to call a gaki Daisho, originally voiced by Ginszo Matsuo, famous for Hemheim in Namama Rano. His new voice actor is Shoji Ininoyama. And as far as I could find, this might be his first named role in an anime. He was credited in last year’s Rouoni Kenshin remake, but I couldn’t tell where. Probably one of the four guys who get blown away by Misa. Next is Manami Kimura, Katsuya Kimura’s younger sister. The original voice was Tomo Suzuki, known for Lynn in Fist of the North Star. Not sure if that reference still lands, but it was a big anime in the 1980s. The new voice is Miori Shimabukuro, who played the heroine Yuna Yunohara in Yuna and the Haunted Hot Springs. By the way, the Hatamona episode, which features Manami, is personally one of the scariest episodes of Nube, in my opinion. That wraps up all the voice actors announced so far. We still don’t know how faithfully the remake will follow the original manga, but there are a few major characters who haven’t been announced yet. for example, Izzuna Hazuki, who stars in her own spin-off series. Then there’s teacher Manako, New’s mentor, and hopefully we’ll at least get to the demon Baky arc. The Zei story line probably won’t make it into this run, but back then he was voiced by Hikaru Midori Kawa, who’s still active today. That role will likely be recast, so I’m curious to see who they pick. Also, since it’s summer, there are quite a few other anime with horror elements this season besides New Like Dandan season 2, Deken Nomogura, The Summer Hikaru Died, and Toilet Bound Hanokkun season 2. Especially Dandan, it’s another Yo-kai Battle series from Jump. And I kind of want to say, did you really have to air it the same season as Nube? Based on pre-release buzz, Dandan is the front runner for seasonal favorite. But if you read the manga, the summer Hikaru died is way scarier. Depending on how the anime turns out, it could be a surprise hit. So yeah, with all this competition in the summer horror lineup, I’m really looking forward to seeing how well the Hellteer New remake performs. Thanks for watching and I’ll see you in the next video.
