【賃貸DIY】壁を傷つけずにつくる、北欧風リビング&ダイニング|貼ってはがせる防音パネル|模様替え|ビフォーアフター

A bright living room with lots of sunlight. Since I rearranged it last fall, it’s still set up for autumn and winter. I still love the current living-dining area, but I feel like bringing in some Scandinavian trend colors. Also, I want to DIY the lonely corner of the living room. Let’s start with installing wall panels that won’t damage the wall. This time, I’ll cover a large area of the wall, so I’ll move things out of the way first… Also putting away the wool rug from autumn and winter into storage… I want to add some Scandinavian trend colors around the sofa, too. Okay, now the DIY prep is done. The big panels, almost 2 meters long, have arrived. They’re from the same maker as the sound-absorbing panels “sotto” I used in my previous home, but these are wood panels called “RIB:BO,” made for wider areas. If the seams are visible, it gives off a handmade vibe, so this time I want a seamless look— a wall that feels like it’s always been there. These seamless panels are made of natural wood… so beautiful. The sound-absorbing sheet on the back also helps with noise, and it’s thin and elegant—I’m excited to put them up. I’ll line them up first to check the overall look… Cutting around the outlet looks pretty tricky. To avoid any disasters, I’ll measure the wall carefully. It’s a plain task, but when the size fits perfectly, it feels great. I’m using my go-to “removable double-sided tape” for rental DIYs. It sticks and peels off cleanly and has strong adhesion, so it’s really useful. (Some walls might not work well, so please test it first!) Starting by placing tape on the four corners. Since it’s a wide area this time, it might take more time than before. “Isn’t it a hassle to redecorate?” I’ve been asked that before. To be honest, before I start, yes—it feels like a hassle. lol But once I get an idea of “what I want to do,” I find myself moving before I even realize it. And nothing beats the feeling of being in a room you’ve poured love into. I hope the outlet cutout fits… It’s off by about 3mm… but oh well! Now let’s work on the other side. This side fits perfectly! “It’s me who doesn’t want to compromise” VS “me who wants to cut corners” These two sides of me fight it out as I work. lol I thought “ugh, what a pain” while drawing the panel layout. In a documentary about Hayao Miyazaki from Studio Ghibli, he shouted “It’s such a pain!” while drawing— I really related to that. (Though it’s probably rude to say so…) When you try to do something right, there’s usually some hassle involved. But having something you still want to do, even with the hassle, I think that’s what happiness is. I finished cutting each panel to fit perfectly! They’ll be placed according to the ceiling height. To finish, I’ll fix them with special pins for gypsum walls. It’s a simple task, but important for making sure everything is secure. It turned out beautifully, and I’m really satisfied. While I was at it, I polished the dirty floor too—a win-win(?) On the clean floor, I’ll lay a jute rug—perfect for spring and summer. This colorful jute rug is hard to find in Japan. Since it’s not printed but woven in solid colors, even though it’s light, it has a high-end feel. The bright green, orange, and blue colors are just like the current Scandinavian trends. A large shaker box I got for about 10,000 yen on Rakuten. The elegant screws are a nice accent, and just placing it in the room makes it look stylish. It’s actually a great piece—it works as both storage and a side table. I’ll store my favorite magazines, blankets, and cushion covers in it. Surprisingly, it fits perfectly with the BoConcept table. I can enjoy break time while keeping things stylishly stored. Some small decor items I ordered from Scandinavia have arrived. Even though Imported items have downsides like customs and shipping fees, but you can find things you’d never see in Japan. Once I switch out the autumn-winter knits, a new breeze flows into the room. The main color of this makeover is green. I added orange as an accent to give it a modern finish. The green cover from “Hokuou Kurashi no Douguten” pairs perfectly with the smooth-feeling orange one. I linked it with the green in the rug to create a fresh vibe. Now, putting the Dracaena and the floor light back in their spots. I got a new art frame to match the silver in the USM and lights. This artwork was also imported—it was about 13,000 yen per piece. Lately, I’ve been into adding accent colors to otherwise natural, basic interiors for a trendy touch. The colors remind me of sunset and sunrise—so beautiful, it wakes you up. I wanted light next to the art, so I chose a wall-mounted plug-in light. “TANGUI” is a Korean brand, and while they had other colors, I chose silver. It came with rental-friendly wall hooks, but since my wallpaper is thin, I’ll need to be extra careful when installing it. Still, it’s just so cute… A minimal wall light and a Scandinavian-style art poster— even without replacing big furniture, the vibe of the room has changed a lot. Next, the lamp on top of the USM… this was the hardest one. The lamp stood out too much, and balancing it was hard. The flower vase from “vitra” in the same green color really stands out. Its wavy gloss is beautiful, and when you add flowers, it becomes art. It was expensive, and I hesitated for about half a year… but the moment I arranged flowers in it and the balance felt right, I truly felt, “I’m glad I chose something that felt worth it.” For the shorter S vase, I can decorate it with leftover branches and leaves from pruning. It has separate openings for pouring water, which makes arranging flowers easy—love that. It has a strong presence, yet the colors remind me of a forest or the aurora— somehow nostalgic, a designer vase with a special charm. To balance the look with the vase and the lamp, I bought “STOFF” candle holders. I added three more of the candle holders to the ones I already had. The shape of this candle holder is so well thought out. It pairs perfectly with the USM and the LE KLINT lamp. They give the room a stylish, European feel. I think the colors and height balance are much better now. I also mixed in items from my existing collection. The biggest purchase I made this time was this record player. It’s the Braun “SK5” that I’ve wanted for about 5 years. Made around 1960, it’s a vintage piece with a timeless design. I always knew I wanted this one if I ever bought a player— the wood grain and matte white are just stunning. It needs a voltage converter and temperature control, so it takes a lot of effort. Not something I’d recommend unless you’re a total enthusiast. lol Surprisingly, its value has gone up a lot since I first started looking. This is the first time I’ve seen an “SK5” in such beautiful condition, so I bought it right away. I’m going to play a record by YUKI—someone I’ve loved since elementary school! Her rich tones and familiar, nostalgic voice… It made me realize how truly good things only gain more value over time. Next, I added storage to make use of the space next to the USM— the “Pantone Wire Shelf” by Montana. It’s become a popular staple in interior design lately, thanks to its minimalist style that fits with any decor. It comes with parts that let you stack up to three levels, so it’s easy to customize as your lifestyle or taste changes. The assembly and parts are simple too, which is really nice. I’ve wanted to use this awkward little space for so long! Dieter Rams art book—designer of the SK5. Underneath, I’ll store the records I plan to collect. With a potted philodendron on top, it becomes an even greener, more relaxing space. Philodendrons are easy to care for, just give them lots of water. And I’d been saving this item for a while, waiting for the right moment. It’s the new Panthella Portable in the new color from Louis Poulsen. The chrome base is a total dream for interior design geeks like me. The power button is now a touch sensor on the top nut— every detail is sleek and refined. I’m in love. My favorite art books with beautiful cover design. It looks really cute paired with the light. It also pairs nicely with the BONUQUE white line. Another piece I finally found secondhand: the TECTA K22 side table. This one has a cherry wood top—my favorite— It took me a long time to find this in such good shape. It’s both beautiful and functional, with adjustable height, a “perfect balance of brains and beauty” kind of side table. It’s great for taking a break or switching things up with some laptop work. And lastly, the dining chairs. These two chairs were my favorites, but this time, I’m gifting them to a viewer. In their place, I got new chairs— the Standard Chair by Vitra. A famous design by architect Jean Prouvé, I’ve admired this chair for years. The contrast between the industrial triangle back legs and wooden seat is just gorgeous. I polished up the old chairs and sent them off, with a letter to someone who will treasure them. A fusion of modern aesthetics and classical items. This is the theme of my current room’s interior design. The green chairs now connect the dining and living areas. The green lamp that used to feel out of place now fits right in— it’s all come together in a space full of Scandinavian charm and joy. I want to keep this cozy space, but add some fun touches with cushions, vases, and little accents— a playful, “hygge” kind of room. Something that brings life to my daily routine. And of course, for a hygge moment, tea and sweets are a must. Today’s tea is “CHAI PARISIEN” from Mariage Frères. It has a spicy cinnamon aroma and goes great with milk, but it’s also easy to enjoy straight. Paired with petit financiers from DEAN & DELUCA. Delicious…! It’s done~ These sound-absorbing panels, they really give that “always been here” kind of look. Yeah, kind of. This one was quite a big project. Yeah, for sure. But, you know, the corners felt kind of empty. Right. I just wanted to add a bit more contrast. Yeah, yeah. I thought, ‘This is going to be a bit tough,’ but I gave it a try anyway. It must’ve been really hard. It was really hard. But, this one is very stylish. Yeah, especially since this room is a rental, We can’t damage the walls. So I fixed it all with removable double-sided tape and thin pins. Huh, I see. An interior company or something? I felt like I worked for an interior design company. It turned out amazing That’s impressive. This… cushion cover? Yeah, yeah. That’s such a nice color, too. This one’s got that perfect shade, right? And you know, that green lamp from “LE KLINT” is pretty bold— in the old interior, it kinda stood out too much. I wanted to tie everything together, so I added green to the cushion cover and the rug as accent colors. These three pieces all share the same green theme. Ahh, I see what you mean. Yeah. This pattern’s super cute. It’s by a Nordic designer I really like. I’ve wanted it for so long, and finally— I imported it from Scandinavia. Wow, really? Yeah. That’s a rare pattern. Yeah, it is. Also, you don’t really find jute rugs like this in Japan—there just isn’t much variety. Yeah, I love this texture. Exactly. So a patterned one like this is pretty rare. Yeah, yeah. So, out of everything in this room makeover—what’s your favorite piece? Hmm… I love everything, but maybe this shaker box. It works as a side table too. True. And also as storage. Like here, you can keep a throw blanket or magazines… That’s so nice! And it doesn’t take up much space. Ahh, and I see— as a side table, you can use it like this for tea or whatever. That’s nice, that’s nice. It really is. Even for someone living alone, this would be super useful. Perfect for small apartments with limited storage. And it was only around 10,000 yen on Rakuten. Oh wow, that’s pretty good. It even matches the height of the “BoConcept” table just right. That’s amazing. It just happened to fit— Perfect fit. Yes. This one that doubles as a side table is nice too, but I really love this side table as well. It’s height-adjustable. Oh wow, really? Yeah, so I can adjust it to match the height of the sofa—which is actually a big deal. That’s awesome. Yeah. The wood grain is beautiful. Yeah, it’s super pretty. I think it’s black cherry. Wow, you can tell? Where did you buy it? I actually got it on Mercari. It’s normally pretty pricey, but I found a good one there. They have stuff that nice on Mercari? Yeah, I searched really hard. Oh I see. Yeah. It’s originally expensive, but I was able to get it for a bit less. Of course, I bought it planning to use it for a long time— Just in case, for my space or style changes in the future, I’ve started choosing furniture that holds its value, If something keeps its value, then even if I pass it on to someone else, I can do that for close to what I paid for it. That way, good pieces can be used and reused by more people. That’s kind of how I choose things now. Yeah, like that table over there—it’s vintage too, right? That vintage table was probably used by a lot of people before, but still has so much charm. I also wanted to match the dining chairs in green. Ah, makes sense. This one’s really cute too. Super cute. And you gave away the old chairs in that POPUP gift thing, right? Yeah, the ones we had before. The winner seemed really happy. Honestly, I kind of wanted to keep them myself, but the goal this time was to create a unified look. So I decided to give them to a viewer who would really appreciate them. It’s nice when things can keep circulating—to someone who’ll treasure them. Yeah, that’s great. It’s eco-friendly too. Exactly. You set up the record player too, right? I’ve really gotten into listening to records. The sound’s so good, right? It really is. These days I mostly use Spotify— but with records, I find myself wanting to really appreciate each song. Totally get that. There’s just something about holding a record that makes you want to listen with more care. Feels kind of nostalgic, like changing out CDs back in the day. Yeah, exactly. There’s so much music out there these days, but when you pick one record and play it on the player, it just feels special. It’s like… the experience starts from choosing the record. Yeah, totally. You take your time with it. Exactly. You slowly and carefully listen to a favorite you chose with intention. Kind of like how we curated this whole space. Yeah. It’s not like we just went out and bought everything on a whim. I spent a lot of time, thinking things through—choosing every piece carefully. I’ve actually been wanting to share more of that fun of interior design with my viewers for a while now. Yeah. At the start of the year, I got so many requests about that. So this time, I thought I’d finally take on an interior coordination project! Finally!! Yes—finally! That’s amazing. It’s not easy to do something like this all on my own, but this time, by chance, CRASH GATE kindly offered to provide furniture for a viewer. They’re a brand with tons of super cute pieces, so I think people will be really excited. So! I’ve decided to do an interior coordination giveaway! Wow… I heard it’s worth ¥500,000? That’s right! We’ll be giving away about 500,000 yen worth of furniture. Just one winner will get a full coordination plan for their home. All the details will be in the description and on my Instagram Stories, so if you’ve been thinking, “I want to refresh my place,” or “I’m not really sure how to style my home,” please feel free to apply! Yeah, definitely. I’ll actually visit the winner’s home a few times, listen to their preferences, and give personalized ideas and suggestions. That’s so exciting—I can’t wait to see it! Instead of just enjoying interiors by myself, I want to create a video we can all enjoy together. That’s lucky! Doing something like this alone is really tough. And ¥500,000 worth of furniture… that’s wild. It’s all thanks to everyone who’s watched and supported me. Totally. CRASH GATE is being so generous. Check out the description box and my Instagram Stories for more info! So! The dining and living room changed quite a bit in this makeover— what did you think? If there’s anything you were curious about, please let me know in the comments! I’ll see you in the next video. Bye-bye! To me, interior design is like a beauty serum for the soul. I want to create a space that feels just right—for my own peace of mind. That little sense of contentment is what gives me the strength to face tomorrow. See you next week! NIKO.
