  1. I mean I get what Matsuri trying to say as a viewer it can be off putting to me and to matsuri’s but it’s also depends on the streamer/vtuber if they are willing to address about the little too on the nose comments.

Also for example like this clip of her addressing it.

  2. "You're as beautiful as the day I lost you."

I am literally seeing such a phrase in some clips highlighting someone's debut in comment form just because they sound exactly like someone who graduated

  3. Bruh that's just a matter of perspective lol.
If you know you will get it but if you don't know these comments will be just normal comments. It's only cringe for those that know that it's a lie, that's nothing.
I thought we moved on from being afraid of cringe because it's a part of us but I guess not.

  4. I agree that this "play acting" shouldn't be necessary, but given that almost every vtuber agency does not allow current streamers to ever reference their PL directly, nor reference their name ever again after they've left the company if they're using another name, it's the company's fault. Hololive/Cover is part of the problem.
I'd love to talk about Hololive talents in their "new" aliases after they've graduated on Hololive platforms, but Hololive will censor all those references…. so I "play" along with only oblique, very vague references when people bring up the subject of where has XXX gone, or how is XXX doing now?

  5. I mean there's only 2 options in these scenarios, either completely ignoring the fact that you already know the vtuber or being cheeky and rolling with the whole "meeting for the first time" thing. I don't see the point in faking reactions when both chat and the vtuber knows what's happening

  6. I totally agree. Another thing i always find cringe is when someone says "omg she sounds like a certain (insert whatever character the girl was before)"

  7. Most of the people here is not speaking Japanese (which is understandable), and just took what Matsuri said too literally on face value.

Hajimemashite (初めまして) literally means 'first time meeting you', but CONTEXTUALLY it means 'nice to meet you'. Period. It's a greeting (aisatsu/挨拶). There is no implications that this could be used maliciously.

You can, however, use this sarcastically as a banter to the person for a playful interactions. Which is also not harmful. Just a bit cheeky. And cheekiness are often accompanied by a sprinkle of cringe. That's normal, and pretty much harmless. (You can also bait cute reactions from the talents, which is pretty sure the main reason why they did so.)

If you cringed, that means you have the forbidden knowledge. If it doesn't bother you, that means you don't possess the forbidden knowledge. That's the burden of the forbidden knowledge, just as the famous sayings goes: 'ignorance is bliss'. Law of equivalent exchange.

Matsuri is known as being cheeky (strong offense), and awkward when being cheeked back (weak defense), so she cringed when she saw the cheekiness done by someone else.

All in all, it's all not a bad thing, but I just want to take the conversation back to the actual context, since misunderstandings would bring future disaster (useless dramas).

While Japanese people are famous for being very polite, and the internet has been telling tales about how there are a lot of things that is supposed to be considered offensive in Japanese cultures, the Japanese themselves are not that mentally fragile. They have banters too. Let's not making what's not offensive seems to be offensive.
