Film Review: Drawing Closer’s Love Story With A Twist

Drawing Closer is a 2024 Japanese language film directed by Takahiro Miki – available on Netflix with English subtitles – based on a manga (graphic novel) by Ao Morita that moved many readers to tears and became a social media sensation. It tells the story of two young people, Akito and Haruna (played by Ren Nagase and Natsuki Deguchi), who are both facing terminal illness. Their circumstances have caused both to withdraw into emotional isolation, but the relationship they form will inspire them to reengage with the world, and to hang on to life for as long as they can…

  1. I think that the only Japanese films I have seen are from Akira Kurosawa. This looks like it might be a tough watch for me but I like your enthusiasm for it and may get me to check it out one day. Take care.

  2. Sounds like they choose two great leads with Natsuki Deguchi and Ren Nagase. I share a common interest with you when it comes to good Asian films. This one sounds great. Are you planning on doing more movie reviews Doug? Or did you enjoy this one so much that it prompted you to share it? Either way. I enjoyed it~
