The Ecstasy Girls (1979) Rated PG

This picture was nominated for so many awards,   took home seven statues! First time producer 
Harold Lime, ever worked with director Gary Graver… and it looks amazing! Won best 
cinematography. Serena plays… two roles, twin sisters, soap opera style. 
It’s 1979’s ‘The Ecstasy Girls’ [Music] “Get Jack Valenti on the horn, I want to 
clean up some movies!” What? We are cleaning up some movies! You know that kind of messes with my 
psyche… I don’t believe in censorship. What am I   doing running this outfit? I’m Jason from Barefoot 
This is ‘Squeaky Clean Adult Films’… where we make Jack Valenti very happy. ‘The Ecstasy 
Girls’! Gary Graver and Harold Lime… two mega forces! They worked together 10 times. This 
is the first one ever. We’ve done five of them. We’ve got 50% of their oeuvre covered. We just did 
‘Amanda by Night’ and ‘Indecent Exposure’, this, we’ve also covered ‘Summer Camp Girls’ and then 
their last outing, plot twist, shot on VHS, home video produced, “urban”, ‘Black Lava’. Five down, 
five to go… one of them is being worked on right now. Gary Graver’s third time in the directing 
chair… ever. He’s a famous cinematographer… and this one best cinematography, which he didn’t 
shoot. How do you like them apples? Best actor, Jamie Gillis. Best supporting actor, Georgina 
Spelvin… best cinematography, best score, best song, best screenplay, which Harold Lime 
wrote with Bill Barron… and best production value. Never even heard of that award… not 
production design, production value… and wait till you see this… production value, 
which is a term… it is on, every dollar is up on the screen! It looks amazing… not a 
Vinegar Syndrome. Gary Graver just shot both those Svetlana pictures ‘800 Fantasy Lane’ and 
‘Ultra Flesh’. Same year as ‘800 Fantasy Lane’, now he’s in the director’s chair… and just like 
‘800 Fantasy Lane’, I can’t tell why this picture looks so good? It got re-released in 2011 on Video 
on Demand… they’re not restoring a movie. Best I can come up with is… Image Entertainmen…t 
released the laser disc, so we’re going back some years. That’s a possibility. They could have 
restored the picture and cleaned it up for that release… I don’t know? I love this movie, we 
got, the Churches. The family of, the Churches. That’s their last name. The patriarch of the 
family, he’s a good old red-blooded, Republican. He doesn’t like these “alternative lifestyles”, 
and that doesn’t mean ‘gay and straight’ like   it does mean today. It meant… “hippy”. When they 
say “alternative lifestyles” they’re talking about “free love” … and then all his children are 
good old blue-blooded, free love, Democrats… and you’re about to see the going ons… of this 
different… family. 97 minutes long. Ours is 31 and a half. You have a big whopping feature, 
I’ve been editing this for quite some time. I started this before ‘Ultra Flesh’ and before ‘800 
Fantasy Lane’. There are so many… similarities, I mean we got tennis scenes in this, I’m like 
“Hey 800 Fantasy Lane” We have oversized chess piece playing.. and I’m like “Hey Ultra Flesh” 
It’s PG. We have a lot of sexy outfits and we have a lot of drinking and smoking. These rich 
people… they drink… and they smoke, a lot, in sexy outfits. We got some innuendo, we 
got some romance… but otherwise pretty   clean picture. You watch this, we’ll talk 
about all the cast… in 31 and 1/2 minutes. [Music] Hello Uh JC hi Yeah we didn’t get a chance to talk at the 
party Uh job Sure What are you doing A new film Uh Charlie thought I could help you out Thanks 
anyway JC Yeah sure I’ll think it over [Music] [Applause] Glad you changed your Fine Jerry
Well it uh still depends on what   you have in mind JC It’s good to be alive 
especially when you have money in the back Ah don’t be embarrassed my friend With all 
this even I have cash flow problems and my brother’s one of the wealthiest men in the 
world and also one of the most miserly But all that seemed to change for both of 
us The old boy is dying But the Lord has decreed that we must go on and has provided 
a means for you and I to do so You and me I watched you last night out here in there 
everywhere In there You have something women want We just get to the point A man is 
dying He leaves a will He names heirs Heirs Several heirs My sister Madlin you met 
her last night She’s devoted her life to my poor widowed brother and his four seemingly 
innocent daughters He’s got a sister and four daughters And a brother me
That makes six right and one sixth of his fortune 
to each That’s fantastic Then you’ll all be wealthy or wealthier My brother 
also has morals That’s where you come in Finally
Edgar poor fellow doesn’t know   that his daughter’s experimenting with lifestyles 
Man like that doesn’t know about his own daughters Family album They must all be 
seduced therefore cut out of the   will Disinherited [Applause] [Laughter] What 
a lovely word Disinherited Imagine the same man suddenly confronted by his own family 
Those who should support his views the most Moral wastils Can you imagine the reaction A 
cataclysmic response to all that infidelity I’ll need filmed and taped evidence 
It’s worth $100,000 to you Jerry Martin all of them
Like my brother I want it all [Applause] for this We get paid Turn my key light You’ll never be a successful 
director till you learn respect for your producer What we need right now is a successful investor
Did somebody call my name Jerry film That’s the only real thing 
in the world Jerry is super rich So what We want to shoot 35 You’re 
not doing a feature for a movie house   Okay you guys in with me or not What’s the budget
Food travel expenses location shooting Yeah till we get the goods on all five of them
Equipment unlimited film camera sound lights you know the works
It’s a dream come true boys   How much If we get all five of them on 
film there’s $10,000 for each of you Come on I haven’t got all day We got things to do
Come on George That’s $10,000 a piece That’s enough to start our feature
I’m not an investor I’m a producer   No you’re not You’re nothing yet I’m an 
assistant And you’re nothing but a gopher Okay we’re in  Okay let’s get to work We got to 
get the goods on all five of them Check the backgrounds Find out any little 
quirks What turns them on What turns them off Sort of does cinema verite Right now if they 
don’t fall for the bait that’s you you or me Or if something goes wrong we don’t get all five 
of them on film And the whole deal is off There’s   nothing for anybody

should apologize for my behavior at the party Well then I want you to call Hollywood 
Meline and tell Jack Valenti that   I’m holding him personally responsible for 
this year’s dirt In all of those pictures the goodbye girl an unmarried woman Annie 
Hall pretty baby the Betsy the Greek tycoon Don’t you think you ought to rest now Edgar
Rest I’m never going to rest till I get this   country back on the moral standard Not the gold 
standard We lost that But we’re not going to lose the moral standard too And then I want you 
to call the networks now All three of them All three of them And I’m going to have you tell 
them that I’m cancelling all the sponsorship from   all the companies that I control because they 
sneaked in a bunch of smutty programs while I really Oh now listen Hey I want you to call that 
shanker fella too over at the National Teachers Association And you tell him I’m going to pull my 
daughters out of school so as he stopped teaching   those dirty courses in sexual awareness Your 
daughters are out of school Edgar Well they’re my granddaughters if I ever have any
Well Edgar I’m glad to see you’re in   good spirits Happens
Casey I’m not dead yet They’ll keep They’re plastic
Oh that’s the question now It’s my   daughters Are they real or are they plastic
They’re very much for real They’re beautiful children
Well then why aren’t they   here They were here all those weeks you were so 
very sick They’re at your beck and call but they do have their own lives to pursue and fulfill
Well then why aren’t they married and settled   down so I don’t have to worry about them so much
They’ll find their own way Just give them time You worried about your daughters Edgar Free 
love JC That’s all anybody wants these days But you got to teach them You got to teach them 
that nothing is free and no one’s going to have   one of my daughters for free or else Listen I’ve 
made an addition to my will Now don’t talk about your will Edgars You’re going to outlast us all
I won’t live long enough to get all of these   morality initiatives on the ballot JC but 
I’ve provided a a funding for them in my will It’s a continuing campaign
and I’ll continue to do whatever   I can to keep it going

and a real daughters real family real morals real pure chasteed obedient real 
and they’re going to remain that way Or else Edgar
what do you think of these gay rights and women’s rights and things JC it’s an abomination We’re

to that pistol range She took me to the soccer and the handball and water skiing All I can’t 
believe it Two grown men letting a 115 lb woman run you through the ringer Well looks like the 
producer will have to take over I trade the pair of you for a couple of campire campfire girls 
I trade me for a pair of vampire girls myself [Music] [Music] [Music] No it’s [Music] more Run [Applause] Run [Music] [Applause] Wait Hey wait for me Hello Hello there Well hello You ready for more
Uh yeah I could do that stuff Come here I used to play this all the time You 
don’t believe me do you [ __ ] Nothing   like hitting a target Simple as that Guess I swear
Uhhuh I guess I’ll be content with just watching Oh no Come on Try again Come

bookkeeper surrogate mother Of course the girls are pretty much on their 
own now You met the twins at JC’s party  Yes They’re at that difficult point in life 
where they have to find their own lifestyle and it makes them rather vulnerable They 
tend to trust people if you know what I mean Would you like to see the rest of the house  Love to
Fine Oh yes JC collects everything Why down 
here He has a fascinating game room [Music] He’s got the stuff from all over the world Um Bali Africa H [Applause] Which one do you think 
is me I think I like the real you best of all [Music] [Applause] Oh Archie Oh you’re perfectly right My shoulders 
my hips my thighs symmetrical very observant But photos are still only two-dimensional 
Come here This is the real you Go ahead Appreciate yourselves Have you ever

the party I thought you were your sister You’ve seen the worst side

of a very special film and insists on giving me a preview of it tonight
Well that’s the film He’ll have nothing Unless they try to sell him the raw 
stock is the real thing [Applause] I think I better warn JC about

the whole story She had a right to know In any case it’s all over JC I won’t 
stand for anymore Do you understand  And this um sleazy Sir Galahad will 
join the family and maybe be included in the will Edgar has rallied again And 
remarkably he’ll be with us for a long time Not when he sees this He won’t Where did you get that gun I’ve had it for 
years Someone came to me a long time ago They threatened to send it to 
Edgar unless I gave him money  So I paid to protect the family
You never said anything Then you consider it a fair

were… Oh my God, 1979 Vegas. That’s something! So how did you like that? Did you like them 
apples? Jamie Gillis won best actor. This is 1979, the awards for this are handed out in 1980, I 
already told you… bunch of people won, Jamie Gillis, playing Jerry Martin, he won. 25th time… 
on our show. Paul Thomas, 23rd time on the show. John Leslie, 19th time on the show. I just… 
was watching a movie last night, killing time, just going through filmographies, counting them 
up. I don’t always do that, but they all did good. Paul Thomas was the 100% free-spirited, hippy… 
kind of like his real life, cool guy… persona, getting to kind of play that in this movie. 
He got to kind of play himself, in one part,   when he had well he had a sling, so 
minus the sling, he was Wooderson, he was straight up Matthew McConaughey… in 
‘Dazed and Confused’. Paul was Archie. George, John Leslie… boy did I love all of the film 
stuff! Did you see that brick of Super 8 film? “Jerry is Super Eight”
“So what, you want to shoot 35?   You’re not doing a feature for a movie house”
Look at this… this is Barefoot, this is weak as hell. Look at this… here’s two. Here’s two 
little cartridges. “That’s enough to start our feature” You know how expensive this is? It’s 
like 2 and 1/2 minutes, 2 and 1/2 minutes. All those little yellow boxes they had are 2 and 1/2 
minutes a piece… and I love some of their film discussion. I love when they finally said “Okay 
let’s do it.” When he’s like “I’m I’m a producer not an investor.” He’s like “You’re nothing… 
You’re a gopher.” “I’m not an investor I’m a producer” “No you’re not. You’re nothing yet, 
I’m an assistant and you’re nothing but a gopher” “Okay we’re in”
And he goes… “I’m in.”  “Okay we’re in”
It reminded me of the Broken Spoons. So let’s talk about the Churches. Edgar Church, that’s Richard 
Norris. He was the… top of the food chain. He was only in one movie ever and it’s this one. Not 
too open-minded! He had a brother and a sister… Madeline Church was his sister, Georgina 
Spelvin. She won best supporting actor for   this. She was cool! Her sixth time on the show. 
Her brother was JC. J… C Church. John Alderman, third time on our show and he got to do some crazy 
John laughter. Remember I think we even like, super cut it, from ‘Amanda By Night’ where was 
like (laughter) the first time he did this, when I was doing a watch through, I was like 
“oh man, we’re so back!” [Laughter] and then we have the kiddos, Nancy and Diane, both played 
by Serena… this is my favorite Serena movie… hands down. We’ve done seven of them. We’ve got 
a lot more to go through… but 100% my favorite Serena movie… not the first sister, the second 
sister. Lesllie Bovee… playing Barbara, boy was she amazing! She was gnarly… and fearless and 
you barely got to see it. That’s the the worst thing about cutting this, was losing Lesllie 
Bovee. Got to see her a little bit at the party in the very beginning. You got to see a little 
bit with her … little photoshoot type dealio “What a lovely word” And then we have Laurien 
Dominique, who played Constance Church, ‘Sporty Spice’ her second time on the show… 
because she was ‘shaky’ in… ‘Hot & Saucy Pizza Girls’ I’ll tell you what I should do, is I should 
open this and then I would have a ‘Hot & Saucy Pizza Girls’… t-shirt to wear, during one of 
these. I don’t deserve it yet, It’s been sitting there for four days, can you imagine… you know 
what kind of, you know what kind of either um… discipline that takes… or mental illness. Your 
mega birthday present… just sit at my desk…. I’m not going to open it for a long time either, 
I’m just going to stare at it… but when I do   you’ll see a ‘Hot & Saucy Pizza Girls’ shirt. 
And that wraps it up! We had some some young filmmakers, some cinema vérité, filmmakers, 
trying to blackmail a family, the Churches, and…. it didn’t end up going the way they 
thought it would. Instead we got John Alderman, doing the jig… in drag. I hope you liked 
that… I did! I liked it a lot. Don’t subscribe, Don’t like, don’t share, just watch… Um, we

cool one! We’re going to… 80’s VHS, but shot on film… and it’s a request. Every once in a while 
it gets brought up… and it is a… cult classic. It is weird. We’re going to weirdsville… 
and we’re going to… electronic crazy score. I don’t know yet, because I haven’t written the 
script, I don’t know if this has been released, it feels like there would be a vinyl, 
for a bunch of hipsters, because the, the score is phenomenal… And that’s all the 
hints I’m going to give you… I’ll see you then!

Gary Graver and Harold Lime team up for the first of 10… it’s ‘The Ecstasy Girls’…. and it won a LOT of awards! Best Actor (Jamie Gillis), Best Supporting Actress (Georgina Spelvin), Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Song, Best Score and Best Production Value. Plus it’s got that ‘film-within-a-film’ thing going on!
