Thinking of the time Kendrick had a fan come up to sing with him on stage. The fan didn’t skip over the word and Kendrick took the mic away and shook his head, made it clear if you’re not from the culture, it’s not for you to “reclaim” out loud—the standom making a wack stance about reclaiming a word is even weirder. As if they even know what any of that means. Everything these stans do is shallower than surface level performative. These stans twist anything to make an excuse for acting crazy. If the stans dislike a competitor girl group, they’d be on their necks even though they actually don’t even GAF. When it’s their faves, it’s excuses about excuses.
Im a bit confused it means you in the korean language 🤦♀️ i would understand how its wrong if it came out of my mouth buts it literally the korean word for you , and shows cultural ignorance towards koreans also , very confused by this video today
Not even just that there was a new clip of Jennie saying it as 18 whole situation was disappointing I wonder if the girls will make a statement or just ignore until it blows over ://
First of all, they are not English so, they probably don't know exactly what the word means. Secondly, culturally they are different and not sensitive to words and Thirdly, if people from different countries start throwing that word around loosely, it shows how people from the US have thrown it around loosely.
What i hate is how easily they get away with it because of their rabid fans, they've disrespected indian culture too multiple times and when people rightfully called them out for that, their fans blinks took that a chance to be racist to indian people. I don't think any of them will apologise and their fans are going to justify this shit.
They're just kids (at the time) copying words that black artists have made wholesale for decades. People can write today's intent into it but it was likely just mindless reference.
It’s rap music, what do you expect? The N-word it’s thrown everywhere in rap culture to promote their songs. Many foreigners rappers studied the lyrics and beats of the song and tried to mimic the song on every word including the N-word. If it’s alright people that are not African decent sing the song with the N-word? No, however they can sing by themselves with no one is around. Regarding Blackpink members, in my opinion they were giving those songs by YG to sing for their auditions or they choice their song to sing. Who knows? YG is not the only K-pop label that make their k-pop idols sing those songs when they were auditioning.
I am 28 now and I live in india where majority of people speaks English but i didn't knew about that word unti 3 years ago, about which i came to know on internet while someone was getting hate for saying it. What do you all say now. They were literally like 15-16 and u guys expect them to know about black people slangs which except black none can use? Wow…..u guys are so intelligent. People on internet are really dumb sometimes. Plus people nowadays are more informed about these because of internet. Bet that might not be the case 10-12 years ago until someone taught which is company's mistake not these girls. U better think before criminalising these girls.
She sang ,,Ayo“ by Chris Brown…that song came out 2015, South Korean culture knew the meaning of the N word by then and that’s what matters. I myself am from Germany and I knew how bad that word was long before 2015. I didn’t have American friends at the time, nor was my English proficient enough to communicate.
As a half black person, I'm so tired of this argument. They are COVERING A SONG. Don't put it in your songs if you don't want people to sing/rap along. They're not walking down the street calling black people the N word because they hate them. Nobody cares. And nobody should. Because all this does is water down what actual racism is which is detrimental to real victims. But this generation has no critical thinking so… 🤷🏼♂️
Honestly, as to why ppl who don't even understand the culture do that (other than those who are actually trying to be offensive) is cuz a lot of people outside the US really don't understand what "appropriating" even means, they don't understand "reclaiming", they don't have words like that in their vocabulary unless they are chronically online. I wouldn't even know what a "slur" is if I wasn't on tumblr all day at 15 😭 To most people if there is an offensive word, you just don't use it to attack someone, so they think singing it is not important. Or, usually, in most languages, if a word is thatttt offensive you would never hear it in songs. It is genuinely a culture difference in some ways, but even saying this is considered offensive so idk..
my girl jisoos always been a real one. also what cultural ignorance lolllll jisoo would have the most argument for cultural ignorance out of the four of them and she is crystal cleannnn
speaking to stuff that should change in kpop- there’s even like little children in groups widely accepted- this one group madein had a child in the group that was sexually harrassed/assaulted by staff and like the company is protecting them. im just saying as a kpop fan kpop is actually really horrible in many many regards…
also regarding BP, lisa got underpaid out of the four for the beginning/good portion or their career as a group because she is thai and korea is racist towards south asian and southeast asian people. so when the whistleblower said the workplace is racist- i believe them 100% cus a lot of companies and groups and shows in korea discriminate against non east asian POC. there’s some black idols too like fatou from blackswan and she’s had her share of hate and stuff too.
look, i’m not trying to defend them at all 😭 but the context does matter that this was them 14-15 performing for private monthly evaluations, in a company who’s whole branding was “rap” and being “alternative”. these weren’t meant to see the light of day. these were teenagers under lock and key, whose whole day revolved around the whims of adults that controlled their diets, outfits, and song choices. calling them racist is not up to me, but i do think the bigger issue lies with the company thinking cosplaying blackness and rap culture as a way to be “tough” in conservative south korea speaks volumes.
We all know their fans will excuse everything they do so there will be no consequences per usual 🙄 nothing came out of RM and Suga getting exposed for saying it either. These people will never care.
As a black person myself i will never understand normalizing the use of the word (in american music and slang) then getting pressed when the word is used😂😂😂 Particularly in the context of SINGING A SONG and not even in a day to day conversation 😂😂.
The word shhoukd have been left behind since its so harmful plain and simple. Now y'all wanna crucify everybody. Of course i dont know anything about the mindsets of these girls but does anything else in their behaviour over the years clearly indicate that they are racist? Come on people😪
It's crazy to see people defend these cases honestly 😭"that word doesn't exist in the language" oh but it does, just in a different way. There is so much racism against the black community along with appropriation of the culture. If you are going to be profiting off hip hop culture, I would hope you do research.
Black artists knew what they were doing when they purposefully put that word in their songs, how do u expect the audience not to sing to it? Also it’s the intention that matters some people say it to troll and be racist but this is a song with no sick intentions like that. This is a practice video, not performing for a crowd or a concert, y’all just hating cuz it’s leaked and they are celebrities now. It’s like us normal people singing 🥷🏾 when we are alone and somebody recorded it and leaked it, give them a break gosh
To me the craziest thing is that the only person that haven't said the n-word doesn't even speak english/is bad at it, whereas the rest is pretty fluent…

The fact that jisoo the Korean one knew damn well not to say the n word is something because the excuses their stans give are so pathetic and weird

People in comments are saying that it's a cover-up for kim sohyun's press as if korea gives a damn about racism, it's nothing for them 😭😭

Blackpink so disrespectful
I love your hairstyle
I had a blink ACTUALLY say everyone around the world says the N word so it's no big deal

Honestly not surprise, there's even a video of Lisa in the Oscars ignoring a black interviewer and her security being rude to him.

A country filled to the brim with corruption, no compassion for mental health issues, no nuance for race relations. Sounds about right 🤷🏾♀️
That’s a long intro..
Only safe member is jisoo in blackpink now , i think leaker has connections with jisoo 😂😅 joking
Jisoo is an ANGEL
